Why We Use 95% Baby Alpaca

Not all alpaca fiber is created equal.

Many brands focus on the percentage of alpaca in a sweater. We believe the quality of the alpaca fiber matters even more.

Our J-Pocket Sweater is crafted from 95% Baby Alpaca, the finest and softest alpaca fiber available. Despite its name, Baby Alpaca does not come from baby animals. It refers to the exceptionally fine fiber produced during the earliest years of an alpaca's life. This rare fiber is prized throughout the world for its luxurious softness, beautiful drape, and exceptional comfort.

At Peruvian Accent, our family has worked with alpaca fiber for generations. The finest Baby Alpaca fiber from our cooperative is reserved exclusively for Peruvian Accent collections, while other grades of alpaca fiber are supplied to textile manufacturers around the world.

By reserving this premium fiber for our own sweaters, we are able to create garments that feel remarkably soft against the skin while providing the natural warmth, breathability, and durability alpaca is known for.

The remaining 5% consists of premium Dralon® performance fiber. This small addition helps the sweater maintain its shape and structure over time. Because pure alpaca fiber naturally relaxes and stretches with wear, Dralon® helps preserve the fit while allowing the luxurious softness of Baby Alpaca to remain the star of the garment.

Handmade in Peru Using Natural Dyes

Each sweater is individually handmade in Peru using traditional techniques and naturally derived dyes inspired by the rich colors of the Andes Mountains.
